The Archaeological Potential of Secondary Contexts

Module 1 - Outline of Research

Module 1 entails the assessment of the temporal structure of secondary context, fluvial aggregate sequences

The goals are to identify sedimentary structures that may be used as potential temporal markers to indicate the time-depth of fluvial sequences and the depositional and erosive events associated with those sequences. Three sub-themes are addressed:

1. The duration of fluvial events associated with the deposition of sand, gravel, clay and silt sediments.

2. The proportion of glacial-interglacial cycles represented with river terrace fluvial aggregates sequences.

3. The duration of depositional hiatus and/or erosive events within fluvial sequences.
