RJM's Demo of Time Response of First Order Systems
The user can select one of four first order systems : an RC circuit, a motor, a motor in a speed control system, or an Aβ integrator system.
A block diagram representation of the system is shown, and parameter values can be changed by clicking on the blocks.
The system can be described by a differential equation, or as a transfer function in terms of the Laplace variable, s.
Graphs are plotted showing how the output and its differential vary with time for when the input is either a step or if it is a sinusoid.
The graphs are calculated by simple simulation, and the user can specify that the theoretical response is superimposed as well.
The user can set the maximum time for the simulation and the time interval between each simulation step.
Use the system time constant to select an appropriate maximum time: it is better if the interval is less than a 20th of this maximum time.
