Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Numerical Analysis/Scientific Computing: Following the award of a 5-year EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellowship at Reading to the current postdoc, Dr Timo Betcke, an EPSRC-funded Two-Year Postdoc Position is Available at Reading to work on Boundary Integral Equation Methods for High Frequency Scattering Problems. The postdoc appointed will be part of an exciting and innovative research project across mathematical and numerical analysis and scientific computing, involving staff and students at the Universities of Bath and Reading. The postdoc will work as part of a team which includes the four holders of the grant, Simon Chandler-Wilde and Steve Langdon (Reading) and Ivan Graham and Valery Smhyshlyaev (Bath). Other members of the team are Euan Spence, recently appointed to a corresponding postdoc position at Bath, PhD students at Bath and Reading, and visiting researchers Victor Dominguez (Navarre, Spain), Ralf Hiptmair (ETH), and Mahadevan Ganesh (Colorado School of Mines). The project also involves researchers at industrial project partners BAE Systems, the Institute of Cancer Research, the UK Met Office, and Schlumberger Cambridge Research.

Further particulars for the position are available at https://www.reading.ac.uk/about/jobs/docs/RS09041.pdf

To go to the web-page for the project, where further technical details of the project are available, plus relevant papers, click here.

To apply for the post, please visit the university job page http://www.reading.ac.uk/about/jobs/ and then click on "Search current vacancies" and enter the job reference number, RS09041, in the box marked "Keywords". This should bring you to the job description for the position, and then you just need to click on "Apply online". Once you have done that, you should be able to upload your files.

Closing date: 23 October 2009. We plan to hold interviews for these posts on 19-20 November 2009.

EPSRC-funded PhD Studentship available to work with me on Advanced numerical techniques for characterising obstructions in sewer pipes. The 3-year studentship, available to candidates from the UK or the EU, is to work on an interdisciplinary project, with engineers at Bradford and Brunel Universities, and industrial partners, including Yorkshire Water, on novel computational techniques for solving time domain acoustic inverse problems to determine, via remote acoustic inspection, the location, size and type of obstructions in sewer pipes.
